A build begins long before the keel is laid. It is essential for Owners to articulate their operational expectations early, including guest capacity, cruising grounds, charter intentions and technical preferences.
There have been numerous occasions that we have been appointed after the specification has been signed off and then had to help find solutions for oversights. This results in more money needing to be spent for something that could have been avoidable.

While shipyards are exceptional at building yachts, it is important to remember they are also commercial entities. Winterbothams provide impartial scrutiny, ensuring the build aligns with the specification, class rules, and regulatory requirements. Even reputable yards benefit from a second set of expert eyes.

Throughout the build we will provide continued quality assurance, we are big believers in that minute details make an enormous difference; a superyacht is a floating luxury residence and the difference between “acceptable” and “exceptional” often lies in the details. Things such as joinery alignment, vibration levels, paint finish, noise insulation, and system integration make all the difference to an enjoyable experience on a Superyacht.
On a yacht we were overseeing the new build process for as Technical Consultants, the main salon’s sliding door passed initial function tests, but during testing our team noticed a subtle rattle. It wasn’t a safety issue or compliance, but it would have hugely affected the Owner’s experience onboard.

Towards the end of a project is when we would ensure a well-managed handover including technical manuals, compliance certificates, maintenance schedules, and crew training. We do this to help avoid any operational delays, warranty disputes, and compliance gaps.
